Major Hurricane Now Developing Will Head North Toward US: Here's Timing, Track Scenarios

A major hurricane is expected to develop in the Gulf Coast as extremely warm water temperatures and low wind shear will speed up its development.

The timing for formation in the western Caribbean is between Thursday, Nov. 14, and Monday, Nov. 18, according to AccuWeather. 

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has designated the system in the central Caribbean Sea as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nineteen. 

I's expected to strengthen rapidly as it creeps over the Caribbean, AccuWeather.com says.

"Should the current tropical rainstorm ramp up and strike as forecast, it would be the fourth hurricane this season to hit Florida," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Houk said, "If so, that will surpass the record of three landfills in one season from 2004."

As of the latest advisory, the NHC anticipates that this system will soon organize into a tropical cyclone, potentially bringing significant weather impacts to parts of Central America.

Its long-term track is now uncertain.

Sara is the next name for the storm list of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through Saturday, Nov. 30.
